Three faculty members from the University of Hawaii at Hilo were honored at the recent annual Ka Palapala Po‘okela Awards event at the East-West Center in Honolulu presented by the Hawaii Book Publishers Association. The competition included 48 entries from 37 separate book projects.
Three faculty members from the University of Hawaii at Hilo were honored at the recent annual Ka Palapala Po‘okela Awards event at the East-West Center in Honolulu presented by the Hawaii Book Publishers Association. The competition included 48 entries from 37 separate book projects.
“Hawai‘i: A Novel,” by Mark Panek, professor of English, won the Award of Excellence for Excellence in Literature. Kerri Inglis, chair and associate professor of history, earned honorable mention for Excellence in Hawaiian Language, Culture and History for her book “Mai Lepera.” Alohalani Housman, associate professor in the Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikolani College of Hawaiian Language, won honorable mention for Excellence in Illustrative or Photographic Books for “Ke Ao Nani: He Puke Hua‘olelo 1000.”
